About Southern Cross Cottage:

Tranquil Self Catering Cottage situated on a nature farm at Stormsvlei - just across the old iron bridge spanning one of the Sonderend River's best fishing and canoeing pools. This solitary converted cottage nestles amongst ancient bluegums, with the river a stones's throw away. Sunsets are magnificent in this area.  In the evenings, the light from the paraffin lanterns give the interior of the cottage an olde world charm that is addictive.

Go back in time - electricity has not reached this spot - and mellow with the glow of the naked flame in the stillness.  Allow the fresh air and calls of a wide selection of birds (including the fish eagle) to revive your soul.   Spring flowers and birdlife can be wonderful at this ideal family or friendship-group getaway - even your well-behaved dogs are welcome.

  • 3 bedroomed cottage sleeps 6-9 persons.
  • Bedding supplied. NB. Please bring your own towels.
  • One en-suite bathroom (shower), one general bathroom (shower and mini-bath).
  • No electricity but cooking on gas stove/oven or woodstove; lighting by candle, lanterns or gaslights.

Nearby Attractions:   Very central for many attractions -  Stormsvlei is the gateway from the N2 to the Breede River Wine Valley.
  • Stormsvlei (1km) has a lovely restaurant open daily for lunch, breakfast or tea, with farmstall and flower craft showroom.
  • Southern Cross is situated 20 km from Bonnievale on the Breede River. Also 38 km from charming Swellendam.
  • Just over an hour's drive to coastal resorts of Arniston, Cape Agulhas or Hermanus.
  • Game Parks within an hour's drive include Bontebok National Park, De Hoop National Park, as well as Marloth Nature Reserve.
  • 5km from a wonderful hike up Grootkloof in the Sonderend mountains.
