Saldanha bay's economic activity relates to fishing and seafood processing, although the harbour is used for the steel export industry, ideally situated on the Cape West Coast. 
Saldanha has excellent conditions for water sport and fishing enthusiasts.  It has a very active yacht club and a wide range of shops, restaurants that specialise in crayfish and seafood dishes, two hotels, several guest houses and self catering holiday accommodation.
Adding to Saldanha's diversity, it is host to a training naval base and the SA Military Academy.
