About Cape AgulhasThe CAPE AGULHAS area covers Agulhas, Struisbaai, Bredasdorp, Arniston, Elim and Napier. The coastal villages of Arniston, Struisbaai, and Agulhas are favourite holiday destinations and offer accommodation for fishing, watersports, or ski-boating and boast stunning turquoise ocean and 14kms of beaches. Cape Agulhas stretches from the Overberg mountains to the southernmost tip of Africa at L'Agulhas where the two oceans meet - the currents of the Indian- with the Atlantic ocean. From Gansbaai in the west to the mouth of the Breede River in the east, this region includes the De Hoop/ De Mond Nature and Marine Reserves. Worth a visit are the Agulhas lighthouse - the 2nd oldest working lighthouse in South Africa, and the Waenhuiskrans Caves that are only accessible with the ebb of low tide. The towns of Napier in the mountain valley and Elim, with its history as a Moravian Mission station, offer charm and interest to the traveller heading to the coast. Bredasdorp is the economic and farming centre of the Cape Agulhas region, and offers farm cottages and self catering accommodation with all the facilities of a farming town. |
