Find holiday or farm accommodation in the Overberg, an hour to the east of Cape Town, just ‘over de berg’ comprising towns of the Whale Coast - Rooiels, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond, and Hermanus and inland towns of Villiersdorp and Caledon (known for its hot springs spa and casino).  The Cape’s Whale Route is also one of the best mountain venues for hang gliding and paragliding.
The indigenous fynbos of the Overberg is world renowned to botanists.  Consequently the local landowners have established the Overberg Fynbos Route with outings and workshops at nature reserves from Stanford through to Hermanus.  The Harold Porter National Gardens offer lovely walks through this fynbos reserve in Betty’s Bay.
Visit Stony Point’s breeding colony for Jackass penguins in Betty’s Bay or try out more active pastimes and adventure activities such as sand boarding, sea kayaking, tandem paragliding.  Try boat cruises, fishing charters or great white shark-cage-diving at Gansbaai.
Enjoy the Hermanus Wine and Food Fair in August, the Hermanus Whale Festival and the Fernkloof Wild Flower Festival in September, or the music, theatre and crafts at the Kalfiefees in Onrus in August.
