Accommodation in the Witzenberg district consists of five gems, namely Ceres, Tulbagh, Wolseley, Op-die-Berg and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet. The area is just under 2 hours from Cape Town on Route 62, in the Cape Winelands.
Ceres, is one of the most important deciduous fruit producing regions in South Africa. Find farm accommodation and self catering cottages near Ceres, in the mountains accessed via either Michells Pass from Cape Town, Gydo Pass from Citrusdal or Theronsburg Pass from Touwsrivier.
The Ceres Nature Reserve has numerous Khosan/Bushman Paintings in the rock shelters of this area. The Ceres valley offers fly-fishing in the rivers, streams and dams which are populated with rainbow trout. The climate is ideal for fruit growing - warm for most of the year and cold in winter, for the cultivation of deciduous fruit - apples, peaches, pears, plums and apricots. In the winter the Ceres district is covered in snow, that attracts activities such as snow boarding and skiing in some areas.
