Get your plans together and muster your crew for the
2012 Mykonos Offshore and the Pacer 27 Sport Nationals.
The planning is in full swing to make the event a major success, but just what can be done to improve on an almost perfect regatta?
Mykonos Offshore Regatta will take place on
24 - 25 February 2012
First class berthing near the naval base in sheltered waters.
at the new YACHTPORT SA.
The facility boasts a 10 ton travel lift and all other modern amenities.
This will prove to be a welcome addition for those larger, deep draft yachts that sometimes have problems getting inside the marina at Mykonos.
A race village (Volvo style) will be set up near the marina terrace at Mykonos and will feature sailing related industries for suppliers and builders to promote the sport to the general public.
The event will be
filmed for Supersport and receive multiple screenings.
On shore entertainment will be laid on with live music and of course the food and catering will be planned to ensure there are no hungry sailors out there.
Club Mykonos offer accommodation at special sportsman’s rates, so when you book make sure you tell them you are in the regatta.
A fleet in excess of 100 boats is expected again, so enter early as the marina space is limited. Berths will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
The organisers have been fine tuning the course layout and in particular ensuring that the gate times are accurate and efficiently relayed through to race headquarters.
The dates cater for spring low tides. The dates for the event are February 24th and 25th.
At the last Mykonos Offshore, the Pacer 27 Sport was the dominant winning design, performing very well in the breezy offshore conditions to take the first 5 podium spots. The weather is always the determining factor and only time will tell who will take victory in 2012. Will the Pacers be up there again?
All the top Cape Town boats have already indicated their intention of entering and we can expect a number of foreign entries as well.
The organisers are keen to have a separate sports boat class and if there are sufficient entries in this division, a new trophy could be at stake. So all those with sporties, make a plan and get your speedsters down to the Cape for a humdinger of an event.
