RACE INFORMATION
56km Ultra Marathon Marathon
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon starts at 06:25 in Main Road, Newlands and finishes at UCT’s Upper Campus.
This historic setting on the slopes of Table Mountain overlooks the Cape Peninsula and the Hottentots Holland mountains – the perfect meeting place for finishers and supporters.
The Ultra Marathon route is quite flat for the first 28km and then starts to climb quickly as runners approach the start of Chapman’s Peak (180m).
From Hout Bay the route climbs again to its highest point at Constantia Neck (215m). Thereafter the route is undulating until the finish at UCT.
All runners who finish within the different cut-off times (based on gross time) are awarded different medals based on finishing times within 7 hours, which is the final race cut-off time.
Prize money totals approximately R1 million.
Closing date for ultra entries remains 7 March and runners are encouraged to enter as soon as they have qualified.
Any participants wanting to upgrade, downgrade or substitute their entry can do so between 1 February and 7 March only.
21.1km HALF MARATHON
The Old Mutual Two Oceans Half Marathon starts at 06:00 – The event organisers have also extended the seeding times for the various starting batches and introduced a new route for the first ten kilometres of the half marathon. The new route will see participants make their way to the M3, up Edinburgh Drive and back onto the old route in Constantia, which will provide stunning views out over Muizenberg and one ocean, as well as help to alleviate the congestion experienced at the start.
Runners need not qualify for this event. The race has a cut-off time of 3 hours with different medals based on finishing times.
The Half Marathon is the perfect event if you want to experience the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, but ultra running is not for you. The Half Marathon is all about the unique vibe and energy that the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon is famous for. Get into the spirit with the supporters or make friends with other runners en route!
Online entries for both the ultra and the half marathon close on 7 March 2012 or when 16 000 entries for the half marathon and 11 000 for the ultra marathon are reached – whichever comes first.
