Cecil Skotnes ' Epic of Everlasting' Art Exhibition returns home to the KWV in Paarl.
The final leg of the
exhibition will run from 15 December 2011 until 13 January 2012 at
Laborie Wine Estate and is open to the public for viewing
from 08h00 until 17h00 daily.
KWV’s Cecil Skotnes travelling art exhibition, featuring 30 works by this highly acclaimed South African artist, has been partnered with the
Laborie Limited Collection on its epic journey to eight destinations throughout South Africa over the last nine months (including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth). Having completed its travels, the collection, dubbed the '
Epic of Everlasting' returns to Laborie, situated in the picturesque town of Paarl in mid-December 2011.
The collection is built around the 1977 piece Skotnes created especially for KWV titled 'The Origin of Wine', which is based on one of the oldest stories of humankind, 'The Epic of Gilgamesh'. This impressive wood carved triptych celebrates not only the complex heritage of the wine-making industry in the Cape, but evokes an appreciation for wine which stems from the ancient quest for immortality and continues into the present day.
The following activities will form part of the
Cecil Skotnes art collection on Laborie.
- The Epic of Everlasting celebration dinner will be hosted at the Manor House on December 13th and will include all the treasure hunt winners from the eight national locations. The winner of the grand prize (a 15 litre bottle of Laborie wine to be refilled for the winners’ lifetime) will be drawn on the evening. The clue to the treasure hunt in Paarl will be announced on the website www.epicofeverlasting.co.za on 5 December 2011.
- The opening of the exhibition on the evening of 14th of December – by invitation only. The Cecil Skotnes collection will be displayed in the Manor House, Restaurant, Cellar Door and Historical Cellar and guest will move from venue to venue to view the collection. The Laborie Limited Collection wines will be paired with a Mesopotamian snack menu.
- Laborie will be the permanent home of the Cecil Skotnes Collection of art and will be displayed in the Laborie Manor House, Cellar Door, Restaurant and Historical cellar.
