Athletes are invited to enter annual
PPC Cement Riebeeck Bergmarathon !
Set in the gorgeous
Riebeek Valley in the Western Cape, the
PPC Cement Riebeeck Bergmarathon remains one of the most beautiful marathons in South Africa due to its winding route through the
Riebeek Valley. Celebrating its 26th anniversary, this year’s marathon is set to take place on
Saturday, 30 July 2011 at
PPC in
Riebeek West.
A Comrade’s qualifier, the event is endorsed by
ChampionChip and continues to offer athletes and their families the perfect opportunity to take a break and experience a weekend away in a picturesque setting. Starting at the PPC plant, the event is as much for athletes as for fitness conscious people who like to do things in a more leisurely way.
There are
four races/walks on offer.
Serious runners can tackle the
42.2km marathon, which is a Comrades qualifier, or the
21.1km half marathon.
For those who want to enjoy the scenic Riebeek valley at a more relaxed pace, there is a
10km run/walk or a
5km fun run/walk.

PPC is delighted to sponsor this event for the 26th year as the sponsorship continues to offer running enthusiasts and their supporters a unique opportunity to experience the beautiful town of Riebeek annually. “It is a serious marathon, but also a time for families to benefit from some time together and enjoy the great outdoors,” he says.
The event attracts athletes from all over the country and has been a highlight on the Western Cape marathon calendar since its inception 26 years ago.
The route is popular for its attractive views and friendly atmosphere and the town boasts numerous restaurants, art galleries and boutique shops.
Van Zyl says the race is like no other marathon in South Africa. “This event is all about a sense of community, bringing local and international runners, their families and members of the Riebeek society together. “This initiative bears testimony to our longstanding social commitment to uplifting the communities in which we operate, especially since most of PPC factories are situated in the heartland of South Africa,” he says.
